Mrs. Dorothy Ann Denson Roberts died peacefully with family on March 1, 2009, in Tampa, Florida, where she has lived since August, 2005. She was born in Carnes, Mississippi, on April 26, 1929, and had resided in Long Beach, Mississippi, for 46 years before moving to Tampa.
Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Roberts, parents, Hill H. Denson and Myrtis Abney Denson, and grandparents, Dr. James O. Denson and Dorr Blankinship Denson and Robert Luther Abney and Alice Alexander Abney.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Donald L. Roberts, Jr. (Elena) and Stephen H. Roberts (Kathy), Long Beach, MS, and one daughter, Claire Roberts Wood (George), Tampa, FL, and five granddaughters, Bridget Roberts Vaughn (David), Decatur, GA, Julie Roberts Tyre (Josh), Monroe, GA, Natalie Roberts, Charleston, SC, Vanessa Roberts, Baton Rouge, LA, and Cecelia Hardwick, Tampa, FL, and five great-grandchildren, Jackson Vaughn, Matthew Vaughn, Nicholas Tyre, Anna Claire Tyre, and Will Roberts Tyre, a sister, Alice Denson Vickory, Mt. Olive, NC, and a brother, Hill Denson, Jr. (Judy), Jackson, MS.
Mrs. Roberts was a graduate of Terry (MS) High School and Hinds Community College. She retired after 23 years as Administrative Assistant of First United Methodist Church of Long Beach, MS. She was an active member of the church for 46 years and served as a member of the Administrative Board for over 30 years and as Membership Secretary for 23 years. With great skill and a heart filled with love, she served her Lord and church well. aÌâÅMiss DotaÌâ was loved by all who knew her there. She was also an active member and Chaplain of the Mississippi Friendship Oak Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and joined the DeSoto chapter of DAR upon moving to Tampa.
Mrs. Roberts was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Always the gracious Southern lady, she accepted the loss of her home from Hurricane Katrina and subsequent move to Tampa, FL, with contentment and gratitude. She enjoyed making new friends in Tampa at Bayshore Presbyterian Apartments and later at Hudson Manor Assisted Living, where she received wonderful care. She is at home now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The funeral will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Long Beach, Mississippi, on Friday, March 6, 2009, at 2:00 pm, with visitation at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in the Long Beach City Cemetery.
