Dorothy Hyatt

d. November 9, 2011

""Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints"" (Psalms 116:15)
Dorothy and Houston Hyatt passed from this earthly life to their eternal home in Heaven on Wednesday November 9th and Friday November 11, 2011.
They were preceded in death by her parents John and Annie Mae Dykes, her sister, A.V. Hyatt along with his parents Isaac and Leola Hyatt, his brother, Theodore Hyatt and his uncle, Leon, Doug, J.C., Talmadge (Uncle Bill) Reynolds.
They are survived by their sons Rodger (Pam) Hyatt, George (Michelle) Hyatt. Their daughters Barbara (Jerry) Patrick, Deborah (Leslie) Rhodes, Paula (David) Newell and Sandra
(Harold) Coleman. They also leave as a legacy, 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Other surviving family members are her sisters Mary Ruby (Jack) Crawford, Billie Jean Smith, Sue (Thomas) Butler, Shirley Willard. Her brothers Herman ""Son"" (Esther) Dykes and Johnny Ray (Rita) Dykes.
In addition, special friends and neighbors John, Patsy and Jimmy Johnson. A vast host of additional family members and friends too numerous to count.
They were members of Canaan Assembly of God where Houston served as a Deacon since 1995.
Houston retired from Ingalls Shipyard in 1989 after serving 38 years in the Electrical Department. He rose through the ranks to culminate his long career as the Superintendent of Department 35, Electrical. Throughout his long and distinct career, he touched many lives and made major impacts on numerous individuals. He was highly respected as a fair, yet firm individual. His name and legacy still lives in the memory of many of the workers from all crafts at Ingalls. Houston was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Dorothy's career was spent the most at Singing River Hospital where she worked in the central supply area and as a surgical aide.
One final thought: if you have ever met either Houston or Dorothy Hyatt and forget them, you have lost nothing. But, if you meet Jesus Christ and forget him, you have lost everything.
Visitation for Mr. and Mrs. Hyatt will be Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 6 - 9 pm at Canaan Assembly of God, 13602 Hwy 613, Moss Point. The funeral service will be Monday at 2:00 pm in the church sanctuary.
