Dorothy “Dot” Nell Evans McDaniel passed to her heavenly home on April 10, 2024.She was born December 3, 1927, to Jeff and Livvie Rice Evans in the Nola Community, Lawrence County, Mississippi. She had been a resident of the coast since 1962.
She was the wife of Joseph Warren (MC) McDaniel and second Mom to Randy Randall and Rickey Copponex.
She was a graduate of Monticello High School, Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, Millsaps College and Charity Hospital of New Orleans School of Medical Technology.
She had been employed as a Medical Technologist by the Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Meadville, MS., Natchez Medical Clinic and Medical Arts Laboratory in Natchez, MS., Gulfport and Biloxi Divisions of the Veteran Administration Hospital and retired from Civil Service from the Gulfport Naval Home.
Since her retirement, she had been a volunteer at her church, (serving as Web Master, Worship-Altar Team Coordinator, member of the Newsletter Team, Building Committee the Trustee Committee) and the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, delivered meals for the Feed My Sheep Program, HOSTS program at Anniston school and preparing documents for microfilming at the Chancery Clerk's Office, Harrison County Youth Shelter and AFRH, served on the Board of RSVP and Gulfport Little Theatre, and manned the Cancer Research Center at Memorial hospital. She received several certificates and plaques of appreciation for her volunteer service, including the John Caranna Public Service Award from the Harrison County Salt/Triad Council.
At the time of her death, she was a member of the MS City United Methodist Church, Gulfport Little Theatre and the Woodglen Garden Club. She was a former member of the Mississippi State Society of Medical Technologists (having served as president for two years), American Society of Medical Technologists, Broadwater Country Club Ladies Golf Association, Altrusa Club of Gulfport, Les Danseuses Carnival Krewe and BPO # 978 Elks Auxiliary and Carnival Krewe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband & soulmate of 47 years, Joseph Warren (Mac) McDaniel; nephews-in-law, (#1 Son) Randy Randall and Dave Curry; sisters, Grace Laverne King (Eddie) Foster and Frankie Gene (Roy) Wilson; a brother, Maxie (Jeanette} Evans, his great grandson, Lil Max; niece, Martha (Carroll) Thibodeaux; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Shelly & Mae McDaniel; brothers in laws, David and Daniel McDaniel; sisters-in-law, Lexine Graham, and Patsy (Harold) Langston. She leaves behind (#2 Son) Rickey Copponex and family of Gulfport, MS.; three nephews; four nieces; seven great nephews; six great nieces; and several great-great nephews and nieces; Patsy's children-Mark Langston and Cathy Curry; Cathy's daughter, Leslie and her son, Ashton; Randy's wife, Vivian & son, Shea; her Church Family; and many friends.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to caregivers, Sarah Hilbun, and Edna Curry.The funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2024, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, MS where friends may come from 1:00 p.m. until the service, officiated by former pastors of Mississippi City United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 9:00 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2024 at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Avenue, Biloxi.
