Dorothy Jean Austin Bowen, 86, of Gulfport, MS, died on Feb. 23, 2010, at Ocean Springs Hospital.
Dotty, as she was known to her friends, was born on July 18, 1924, in New Albany, IN. She had been a resident of Gulfport since 1978. Dotty was an active member of Ramsey Memorial UMC in Gulfport. She was a member of the UMW Quilting Circle, assisted in providing meals for the Mission, and helped with the food pantry for her church. DottyaÌââ¢s hobbies included playing games and crocheting afghans for every member of her family. She had a loving and giving heart and her door was always open for family and friends.
Dotty was preceded in death by her husband of 56 yrs., Chester Bowen.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Matherne and husband Larry of Houma, LA; and two sons, Randall H. Bowen and wife Beverly, of Comfort, TX; and Richard C. Bowen and wife Cathleen, of Atlanta, GA. Her grandchildren are Gina and husband, Barry, Fanguy; Stephen Matherne and, wife Larinda; Tyler Bowen, Lyndsay Bowen, and Megan Bowen Roof. Her great-grandchildren are Alexis Fanguy, Courtney Fanguy, Barry Fanguy Jr., Suzanne Matherne, Christina Matherne, Chase Roof, Jackson Roof, Hailey Bowen, and Elijah Rowan. DottyaÌââ¢s great-great grandchildren are Mariah Brandon and Leyton Fanguy. She is survived by her sister, Martha Chastain of Jeffersonville, IN, and her brother, Edward Austin of Louisville, KY, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Ramsey Memorial UMC, Gulfport, on March 1, 2010, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
