Doris Walker Riemann

July 8, 1921 — August 5, 2016

Heaven became much brighter and earth a little more dim when Doris Walker Riemann joined the angels on August 5, 2016. Doris was born July 8, 1921, in Ovett, MS to Dr. Chester Arthur Walker, Sr and Ina Mae Magnum Walker.
She lost the mother she adored at an early age and became a nurturing, loving second mother to her younger siblings; a practice of devotion to others that she never stopped. Her life was forever changed when she fell in love with a handsome, young Ted Riemann in high school. Thus began a love affair that lasted until his death and was a shining example of the love, respect, appreciation, concern and devotion that every couple should seek. At a time when women were ladies, Doris was the finest of them all. While she was in garden clubs, hosted luncheons and dinner parties, wore hats and gloves and pearls as the standards of the time dictated, her true character was revealed in her deep devotion to everyone she loved and to many that she didn't even know! She always said that her three great loves were the Lord, her husband and her children.
She was devotedly Christian in every aspect of her life and a loving servant to her Lord and Savior. Her faith was her rock in life. Like her Lord, she came to serve, not to be served. She loved profoundly and deeply all of her family. With a true servant's heart she taught Sunday school, bible studies, created a library at her church and helped her husband to found Feed My Sheep in Gulfport.
She adored nature and walked daily with her husband often singing at the top of her lungs, ""This is the day that the Lord has made!"" She was the recipient of the Garden of the Month award numerous times and worked like a Trojan in the enormous yard of the home she shared with her family for many years. She prided herself on always having something blooming in her yard. From daisies, to tulips, pansies, roses, zinnias or any seed she could plant or cutting she could coax along, she could grow anything and shared her bounty with friends and neighbors who always came to her for advice. She was happiest spending time in her huge herb garden crushing some of the fragrant leaves together to smell while she pulled weeds and pruned.
She was a talented artist with a sense of flair and fashion that would have been envied had she not been so giving of her gifts and talents. She never spoke badly of another person, made an unkind remark, or hurt anyone's feelings. She had a vivacious sense of humor and would try desperately to re-tell a joke she found funny only to fail every time, but she never gave up even though her family sometimes wished she would!
Her petite stature could be deceiving, for every other characteristic was larger than life.
She was tender-hearted, gracious, kind, generous to a fault; she loved and was loved by countless thousands in her long life. She was the epitome of kindness, was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was adored by her family who will never, ever forget her tender touch, the sound of her sweet voice, her wisdom, advice and counsel. May each of us live by her favorite words, faith, hope, and love, AND THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. E.T. Riemann, Jr; her parents, Dr. Chester Arthur Walker, Sr and Ina Mae Magnum Walker; her step mother, Dell Landrum Walker; a sister, Tommye Dale Walker Morrison; and brothers, Dr. C.A. Walker, Jr, Harry Gray Walker, Sr, and Dr. Fred Hayden Walker, Sr
She is survived by her children, Sandra Riemann Porter and her husband, Larry; her son, Ted Riemann, III and his wife, Karen; four grandchildren, Scott Weinberg, Chris Weinberg and his wife, Christa, Craig Weinberg and his wife, Melissa, Morgan Riemann McCabe and her husband, Matthew; and numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
