Doris M. McGuff died May 18, 2008 in Gulfport after a short illness.
Born May 17, 1928 in Terre Haute, Indiana, and after early graduation in 1945 from Gerstmeyer High School, she moved to Indianapolis where she met and married Harry A. McGuff in 1947. She continued her education at Indiana Central College in Indianapolis and graduated with honors while raising a family. After graduation she taught various business courses and sponsored many student activities at the high school in Franklin, IN. As Harry's educational and administrative duties grew, Doris served as a supportive and social companion for a number of years. In 1973, she and Harry purchased land on the beach in Gulfport, where she operated a business for more than 17 years. She was extremely dedicated to her family and enriched so many others during her life. Doris will truly be missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. McGuff; her sister, Freda Rose Hixson; and her parents, Bill and Ruby Deal.
Doris will be sorely missed by the rest of her surviving family, sons: Dennis McGuff and wife Susan of Gulfport, and David McGuff and wife Jeannie of Henderson, NV; brother, Don Deal and his wife Rose of Lake City, FL; 6 grandchildren: Jeffrey McGuff, Todd McGuff, Katie McGuff, Jon Law, Jennifer Hopson, and Rhonda Rickett; and 11 great-grandchildren: Devon, Christopher and Breanna McGuff; Taylor and Toby Hopson, Brooke and Walker Law, Brian Jr., Kayla, Landon, and Beau Rickett; and nieces: Carolyn Robinson and husband Paul, and Vicki Novak and husband Ed; Niece Deanna Cash and husband David of Florida; and nephews Michael Deal and wife Diana of Florida; Paul Deal and wife Karen of PA
Friends may visit on Thursday, May 22, 2008 from noon until 1:00 p.m. at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Rd, Biloxi. The Memorial Service is at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Southern Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 417 Security Square, Gulfport, MS 39507.
