Doris Flurry, age 95, of Gulfport, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2019.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Carlton Flurry; her parents, Rev. Paul S. Dodge and Mae Elaine Edwards Dodge; a brother, Paul S. "Jack" Dodge, Jr. (Joy); a sister, Edwina Dodge; and a grandson, James Hilton Landrum, III.
She is survived by her 4 daughters, Doris Ruth Flurry Webb (Thomas), Susan Kaye Flurry Simpson (Ed), Janelle Elizabeth Flurry Derouen (Bruce), and Deborah Anne Flurry Blount (Scott); a sister, Annie Laurie Harris; her grandchildren, Heidi Childs (Bryon), Daniel Webb (Alli), Trisha Neumeier (Lyall), Angie Gardner (Tim), Zeb Simpson (Tara), Bryce Simpson (Amanda), Maureen Simpson, Kaitlyn Derouen, Katelen Lowry (Michael), and Allison May (David); her great-grandchildren, Cameron and Sarah Kate Childs, Alyssa, Paige and Lauren Webb, Tyler, Brody, and Jacob Neumeier, Matthew, Lauren, James, and Sarah Gardner, Olivia and Ethan Simpson, Brayden, Brody, Avalyn, and Adeline Simpson, Emma, Ethan, Evan, Elaine, and Edwin Lowery, and Jonathan, Christian, and Samantha May; and other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Flurry was a native of Gulfport and attended Dish Mathis Business School and Gulf Park College. She worked for the VA Hospital, the FBI, and with her husband Lewis, they owned Dodge Printing Company in Gulfport. She also played the organ and piano for Riemann Funeral Homes and various churches.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Eastern Star. She was a lifelong member of The First Baptist Church of Gulfport until Hurricane Katrina when she relocated to Southaven where she joined Carriage Hills Baptist Church.
She loved to play the piano and had various hobbies that included sewing, crocheting, gardening, painting, needle point, crossword puzzles, and singing in the choir. Mrs. Flurry was also an avid reader.
She loved the Lord and her family fiercely! Everyone knew her as "Nana" and she was the cornerstone to our family and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.
Visitation will be on Monday, November 11, 2019, from 9:30 - 11 am at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Rd., Biloxi. The funeral service will be at 11 am in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
