Donald Gabriel Jones, age 64, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2008 in Gulfport, Mississippi after courageously battling cancer for over a year.
Don was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania on June 24, 1944. He served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966, and worked in sales in the Gulf Coast area for forty years. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as an usher and a greeter for many years.
He was a soccer coach with the South Mississippi Soccer Club, and was a referee with the Mississippi Coast Referee Soccer Association for over twenty-five years, and was elected Official of the Year by the Mississippi High School Activities Association in 2000. He was instrumental in establishing soccer in the Orange Grove area.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Jones, and his brother, Larry Jones.
He is survived by his devoted wife of forty one years, Joyce Boyd Jones; his loving son, Brian Michael Jones, his mother, Anna Marie Jones of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; his sisters, Delores Maltese (Pete), Marie Biernesser (Al), Paulette Main, Maxine Yonosko (John), and Joyce Stephens; his brothers, Eugene Jones (Betty), and Timothy Jones (Denise), and their families; He is also survived by his extended family, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mildred and Alvin Boyd; his sister-in-law, Marilyn Dryman; His brothers-in-law, Dennis Boyd, and Ted Boyd (Judy); and their families.
He loved to fish and play golf with his son, Brian, and also with his many friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gulfport on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 beginning at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Gulfport. RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport is in charge of the arrangements.
