Donald Guy Cooper, age 81 of Gulfport, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Arthur Cooper.
Donald is survived by his wife, Charlotte Ann Broadus Cooper; his mother, Catherine Edna Reinke Cooper; his daughter, Donna Robisheaux (David); his grandson, Bryce Brandon Cooper (Erin); his great grandsons, Reece Robisheaux, Spencer Labauve, Destin Labauve, and Josie Robisheaux; his brother, James Cooper (Jan); his step-children, Christie Necaise (Brent) and Michael Thrash (Chasity); his step-grandchildren, Tyler Ladner (Sarah), Ashlyn Faeser (T.J.), Trent Thrash, Kinley Thrash, Brent Necaise, Jr., Alyssa Shaw (Jared); his step-great grandchild, Meadow Ladner; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was proud to be one of The Few, The Proud, The Marines. He joined the Marines on February 8, 1962, and was sent to his duty station at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina with the 6th Marines. In October, 1962, he was on the USS Boxer LPH #4 in the Cuban Missile Crisis Blockaid. In 1964 with the 6th Marines, was on a med cruise for 8 months. He was honorably discharged on June 8, 1966. He was a Sergeant and received a Good Conduct Metal, National Defense Metal, and Meritorious Mast, and Rifle Expert Badge.
After his military service, he worked in the finance and automobile industry for 21 years and later retiring from the Tax Collector’s office in the Biloxi courthouse.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Long Beach City Cemetery.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport, is serving the family.
