Staff Sgt. Donald Louis Bentz, age 28 and a resident of Long Beach, died on Saturday, June 28, 2008, in Pass Christian.
Donald was a 1998 graduate of Long Beach High School, and was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Gulfport and St. Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach.
He proudly served two tours of duty in Iraq with the United States Marines, 4th Amphibious Assault Battalion, 3rd Platoon Alpha Company. He also worked with the Marine's Toys for Tots.
Donald was full of love and laughter. He loved to hunt, to fish, and being around his family and friends, especially on the river.
He is survived by his loving parents, Wayne & Tammie Ladner Bentz; his sister, Mindy (Eric) Lee; his niece and godchild, Kaylee Lee, all of Gulfport; his devoted paternal grandparents, Stan & Betty Bentz of Long Beach; his maternal grandmother, Gladys M. Ladner of Pass Christian; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 from 6-9pm at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 10:00am at St. John Catholic Church in Gulfport, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Alphonse Malley Cemetery off Firetower Road in Pass Christian. For more information, please call (228)539-9800.
