He grew up in Melville, Louisiana, attending Melville High School later attending Louisiana State University. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball and being active in scouts earning his Eagle Scout. He is preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Ruth Antie. He is survived by his wife, Ida Rebecca Ross Antie; son Don Antie Jr; daughter Susie Antie Bullock (Robert);and brother Charles Antie (Brenda). His legacy continues with his grandchildren Kimberly (KK) and Aaron (AA) Bullock, and Sean Antie (SAM).
Don spent his years on this earth doing a variety of different things. He spent many years as a business owner then became a teacher in his later years. Up until his death he worked as a substitute teacher at the Harrison County Career and Technical Center. His passions included growing a spring and fall garden for over 50 years, creating his own daylily varieties, and canning his homegrown fruit. His most recent activity was beekeeping and he thrived on learning about and maintaining his bees. Those who knew him well enjoyed deliveries of fresh vegetables and honey whenever they saw him.
With everything he was involved in his family was his priority. Spending time with his grandchildren was the thing that brought the most joy to him. He taught each of them to fish, garden, and to love animals. He supported and encouraged each of them to create their own path in life but to stay close to their faith and family.
The family would like to thank the ICU physicians and staff at Singing River Hospital Gulfport for expert care, professionalism, and compassion while caring for him.
If you choose to send flowers they can be delivered directly to the church.
