Don Allen

Don Harris Allen, resident of Sumrall, Mississippi passed away on July 9, 2018 in Hattiesburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Allen and Flora Lee Cuevas Allen; and his sisters, Sonia Vae Allen LaFata and Doris Geraldine Allen Moreno.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Greer Alla Miller Allen; two sons, Robert Mark Allen (Britney) of Carmel, Indiana, and Jessie Ray Allen (Waewwow) of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Patricia Ann Allen of Gulfport; and four grandchildren, Jacob, Sarah, Abigail, and Aidan.
Mr. Allen was born in Gulfport on May 2, 1940.  He grew up in Pass Christian, first living on Woodman Avenue and then Second Street.  He was a graduate of Pass Christian High School, where he played baseball, basketball, and football.  After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving for four years.  After completing basic training, he served aboard the U.S.S. Ticonderoga (CVA-14).  After completing his service in the Navy, Mr. Allen went to work for Bell South (now AT&T), where he continued for thirty-two years.  After retiring, he kept working in the telecommunications industry with his own business that he ran with his wife and oldest son.
He had been a member of Temple Baptist Church in Hattiesburg for several years.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 11:00 AM, at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport, MS, with a visitation for family and friends from 10:00 AM until the service.
