Mr. Dionysus John """"D.J."""" Martin, age 89, lifelong resident of the Standard Community, passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at home.
Mr. Martin was born in Hancock County to Christof Henry and Lydia Ferguson Martin. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1945. He retired from teaching vocational agriculture and Future Farmers of America programs after 41 years. His assignments included Silas, AL from 1946-47, Woolmarket from 1947-48, Sellars from 1949-58, and Hancock North Central from 1959 until May of 1986.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Vibrella Saucier, Afretta Ladner; brother, Darfas Martin.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ollie Herring Martin of the Standard Community; son, Danny Lee Martin (Jane) of Laurel; granddaughters, Elizabeth Thornburgh (Rick) of Ooltewah, TN, and Danielle Martin of Hattiesburg; great grandson, Nicholas Thornburgh; siblings, Christenia Peterson of Gulfport, Myrdesia Ladner (Roland) of Necaise Crossing, and Bernesia Arcement (C.J.) of Standard Community.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 7, 2010, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 9113 Kiln Delisle Road, where friends may visit from 6-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010, in the funeral home chapel at 12 o'clock Noon. Burial will follow at Standard Sandhill Cemetery.
