Diane Fountain King passed away on March 7, 2022.
DD was preceded in death by her mother, Viola; her husband Charles “Doc” King; her daughter Crystal Hungerford; and her sister Shannon Illich. She now resides with them after a long wait in the light of the Lord.
DD is survived by her brother Ray Fountain (Joy); sister Sylvia Diaz (Oliver); her three sons, Michael, Jonathan (Jennifer), and Josh (Angie); five grandchildren (Katelan, Anthony, Elinor, Daphne and John Michael); and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
Diane was born and raised in Biloxi on the Point and lived in Gulfport. She was a hairdresser and later office manager for her husband’s dental practice. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church. She was known as “DD” to everyone including her children and grandchildren.
DD’s home was always open to everybody and she was a second mom to numerous kids throughout the years. Greenbrier Drive was the place to be if you were a kid growing up in the 1980’s. DD always had a house full of food and snacks for all of them. As her children got older, spaghetti night became a weekly thing over the years and was always well attended by a bunch of hungry teenagers.
Diane was also a big prankster. People that knew her well would tell you that she liked to tell the “occasional” white lie. One of her favorite days of the year was April Fool’s Day, she would call her siblings, friends or her children and always try to “get them”. It didn’t take long for everybody to catch on to this, but we would all let her go through her prank every year and laugh about it with her.
DD never knew a stranger or had harsh words for anyone. She exemplified motherly kindness to a fault. She placed the needs of others in front of herself whether it was ensuring her husband “Doc” had eaten or caring for her gravely ill daughter. She devoted her life to caring for her loved ones. Words cannot describe how much love she had for her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. DD absolutely adored her grandchildren and cherished every moment with them. She left an indelible mark on the world and everyone who met her is better for it. She was loved and will be missed dearly.
