Dewey Edward ""Ted"" Atwood, age 77 and a resident of Saucier, died on Saturday, August 4, 2012, in Gulfport.
Mr. Atwood had been a resident of the MS Gulf Coast since 1969, and retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service. He was employed as a longtime educator with Ocean Springs High School and at the time of his retirement, he was teaching at Hancock High School. He was also a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Lizana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Atwood and Nell Mooney Atwood and a brother, Bill Atwood.
Mr. Atwood is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Kathleen McManus Atwood of Saucier; his son, John Atwood and wife Cindy; his daughter, Colleen Atwood Hughes and husband Glen, all of Gulfport; his brother, Jim Atwood of Texas; his sisters, Mary and LeRoy Mason of Florida and Leona and Jack Trent of Arizona and his grandchildren, Destiny Hughes, Theresa Atwood, Daniel Atwood, Dustin Hughes, and Patrick Hughes all of Gulfport.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at 6:00pm at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. A private burial will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport for the excellent care and compassion given to their family.
