Dennis Michael "Flip Flop" Murphy age 65, a native of Kenner, LA and a resident of Vancleave, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Gulfport Memorial Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.J. Murphy and Shirley W. Murphy.
Dennis leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 37 years, Melissa A. Murphy; his children, Joshua M. Murphy (Michelle), Justin N. Murphy and Adell M. Murphy; his siblings, Daniel Murphy (Kim), Colleen Baudoin (Glenn), Patricia Malbrough (E.T.) and Eileen Scoriels (Trae); his three grandchildren, Kayleigh A. Murphy, Matthew James Murphy and Karley A. Murphy. He also leaves behind his fur babies, Lucy and Buddy.
He graduated from Rummel High School in 1971. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration Cum Laudi at St. Leo University in 2002. He was a master gardener with Jackson County Master Gardeners after spending 23 years serving in the U. S. Navy, having retired as an ETC. Some of the awards received include: Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Ribbons, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Southwest Asia Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal among others.
He most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren especially gardening with them, and spending time with the family pets. He was a dedicated LSU and Saints fan, a member of Gulf Hills Golf Club, and one of the owners and active member of Bluff Creek hunting club.
During the last 13 years, Dennis had cancer and fought the fight living his life to the fullest. He was always the smiling face, and there were no strangers in his life. His grandchildren and friends will always remember, "Flip Flops" by the songs he sang.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the American Cancer Society or your local Humane Society.
A visitation for friends will be on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 11:30 a.m. until the 12:30p.m. funeral service, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd at Washington Ave. in West Jackson County. Burial with full military honors will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
