Dellene (Goff) Willcuts, lifelong resident of Vancleave, MS, always marched to her own drummer. That different drummer stopped playing Sunday morning, January 30, 2022. She died peacefully at home after a year-long battle with Alzheimers. There were family members who were able to be with her physically when she passed and family members who were with her in thoughts and prayers. She was surrounded by love as she ended this earthly life.
Born 1934, this lady of contrasts has been living life on her terms whether she was working double shifts at International Paper Company to support herself and her two girls or teaching them how to build a pine straw playhouse for fun; whether she was sewing for herself and her girls out of necessity in the wee hours after work or sewing exquisite Barbie doll clothes to bring them joy. In later years, she was just as likely to be found on the arm of her husband of 46 yrs., Wayne Burr Willcuts, dancing the night away at a carnival ball dressed to the nines, as she was to be out on her tractor working the family property with him or painting and building cabinets and sewing curtains for their home (with makeup in place and coordinating work clothes, of course). She was ahead of her time in her wisdom on life and always had time to help someone out who needed that wisdom and a word of guidance.
She will be greatly missed as devoted mother, wife, and grandmother to those surviving her who include her children, Sheila Janette Elfer (Atwell), Laureen Powell (Holden); her husband, Wayne Burr Willcuts, and his children, Lynn Unroe, Dawn Marie Bluthart, Connie Walters and Cheeri Nelson; and grandchildren, Samantha Rae Auburn, and Chris Cockrell; numerous other relatives and dear friends.
She has chosen Riemann Family Funeral Home, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd. in West Jackson County to carry out her final wishes of a Celebration of Life Memorial Visitation for her family and friends which will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. all at the Lemoyne Blvd. location.
