Pastor Delbert W. Gremmels, 77, of Biloxi, MS, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, in Biloxi.
Pastor Gremmels was born on February 19, 1930, in St. Louis, Missouri and grew up in Chester, Illinois. A graduate of Concordia College in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, Pastor Gremmels served as a missionary for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in Taiwan before entering the United States Army as a chaplain in 1959. Gremmels retired from the army as a colonel in 1985. Throughout his military career, Gremmels received numerous medals and citations, including the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Legion of Merit. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Army, Pastor Gremmels moved to the Mississippi coast and served as the pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Gulfport. Pastor Gremmels retired from full-time ministerial work in 1994 but continued to serve as Pastor Emeritus at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church until the time of his death.
Pastor Gremmels was preceded in death by his mother, Ella Heihn Gremmels, father, Herman Gremmels, Sr., and brother Herman Gremmels, Jr.
Pastor Gremmels is survived by his wife Lela Gremmels of Biloxi, daughters, Karen Cross (Charley Cross) of Folsom, California, and Molly Bruner (John Bruner) of Cheyenne, Wyoming, son, Luther Gremmels (Elizabeth Gremmels) of Livingston, Alabama and four grandchildren, Alex and Julia Cross, Virginia Gremmels and Robert Rey.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 25, 2007 from 6 - 8 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, MS. The funeral service will be at 10 am Friday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 505 Cowan Road, Gulfport, MS.
Intermwnt will be in Biloxi National Cemetery.
