MSgt David "Gene" Smith, USAF, Retired, age 74 passed away peacefully on July 16, 2018, in Gulfport.
Gene, a long time resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, received his Bachelor and Master's Degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. He proudly served in the US Air Force and retired after 20 years of service. Gene is a Vietnam War Veteran.
He was civil service employed, an educator at MGCCC at Perkinston and an instructor at Keesler Air Force Base. Gene enjoyed playing racquetball, doing the Sudoku puzzles in the daily papers and adored his grandchildren.
He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church in Woolmarket, and enjoyed singing in the choir.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Amelia Faye Smith of St. Martin; his children, David E. Smith, II of Forest, MS., Sandy Pennington (Mike) and Aaron Smith (Ashley) both of Biloxi, MS; one sister, Scarlette Smith of Columbia, SC; and his two grandchildren, Hayden and Alyssa.
His fun loving personality and ability to make others laugh will be greatly missed.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd. at Washington Ave., West Jackson County. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment with full military honors will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
The family request donations to Parkway Baptist Church Building Fund, 16372 Old Woolmarket Road, Biloxi, MS 39532.
