CPO Builder David E. Reiter, Ret., of Long Beach, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010, in Gulfport.
Mr. Reiter was born January 2, 1934, in George, Iowa. He retired from the U. S. Navy Seabees after 24 years of service (1952-1977). He was employed by MS Job Corps, Gulfport, and was a contract inspector at CBC, Gulfport. He was also a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church on the CB Base where he served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.
Mr. Rieter was preceded in death by his father, Harvey U. Reiter; mother and stepfather, Velma and Clarence Schoppers; infant daughter, Mary Louise Reiter; and son-in-law, Tommy Garner.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Irene Nolan Reiter; children, David E.(Peggy) Reiter II of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; Rebecca """"Becky"""" (Tim) Berry, Long Beach; Ronda M. Mullins, Long Beach; Darrin E. Reiter, Wellston, OH; Dean P. Reiter, Long Beach; Robyn E. Reiter, LB; grandchildren, David E. Reiter III, Florida; Christopher F. (Elizabeth) Garner, Gulfport; Rashelle L. Garner, Long Beach; Michelle Mullins, Long Beach; Donovan and Ashley Reiter, Wellston, OH; Cody Reiter, Dyland and Landon Bursell, Long Beach; great-grandchildren. Brent and Ethan Garner, Gulfport; Savannah Madigan; step-grandchildren, Walker Rivers, Florida; Heather Berry, Long Beach; Matt Berry, Alabama; sisters, Lylas (Elmer) Van Beest, Sibley, IA; and Dorothy Rathje, Wheeling, IL godchildren, Heather Doyle, Gulfport; and Savannah Sears, Pass Christian; and extended family and friends.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He loved fishing , taking care of his grandkids, and most especially watching his kids, grandkids, and great-grandson play ball while coaching from the bleachers. Many will remember him when they look around their houses, as he was well known for his many construction projects.

Visitation will be at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Rd., Long Beach, from 7 to9 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Thomas Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2010, followed by burial at 2:30 p.m. in the National Cemetery in Biloxi.
