David R. Mesler, age 70, passed away on April 1, 2023 at home in Kiln, Mississippi.
Born in Buffalo, New York, he was the son of the late Franklin and Ann Mesler of Gasport, New York. He was a 1970 graduate of Royalton Hartland Central School and earned a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Buffalo. He spent most of his career in steamboat tourism with the New Orleans Steamboat Company. He was active in national tourism organizations.
Always concerned for others less fortunate, David was proud of his numerous volunteer activities. This includes his involvement with the founding of Belle Reve in New Orleans and their more recent transition from HIV services to affordable housing for seniors. He was an avid reader of both current events and history. No one loved a good political debate more than David. David was also known for his exceptional photography skills and his love for Springer Spaniels.
He was predeceased by his parents, Franklin and Ann Mesler.
Survivors include his brother Ben (Lois); sister Kristine (George); a niece; three nephews; three grand nieces; two grand nephews; and his longtime friend Derek Branchini. He is also survived by his beloved Springers, Roy and Rover.
There will be no public services. David would want his friends to remember him with kindness and to spread that to others. Memorials can be made to Hancock County Animal Shelter, 7175 Texas Flat Rd, Kiln, MS 39556 or Belle Reve New Orleans, 3027 Royal Street, New Orleans, LA 70117.
