David F. Martin, age 83 and longtime resident of Long Beach, MS entered eternal rest while in hospice care by Vital Caring Group at Hattiesburg Health and Rehab on Sunday September 3, 2023.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

David was born in Baraboo, WI April 29, 1940 at his parents’ home.  He graduated from Baraboo High School and joined the United States Navy on July 3, 1958 where he became a steelworker chief in the Seabees.  David served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War (1966 and 1969).  He married his high school sweetheart Barbara (formerly Porter) December 18,1960 and they eventually made their home in Long Beach. After retiring from the Navy October 18, 1977,  David worked for H. Gordon Myrick to build the former DuPont Delisle Plant and then completed a 23-year career at DuPont before retiring to his house.

Dave enjoyed people and was known for his awesome sense of humor.  As a young man he enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing, and reading while relaxing in the sun.  As he aged his hobbies turned to his workshop where you could find him wood working, reloading and preparing to shoot trap with friends.

Besides his loving wife Barbara, he is survived by his son Mark (Donna) Martin of Plymouth, WI, his son Jeff S. Martin of Gulfport, MS and his daughter Mary (Chad) Lizana of Gulfport, MS.  He was a proud grandfather of Jeremy (Jessica) Martin, Chelsea Martin (Matt Anti) and Jared S. Martin.  He was a great-grandfather to Zachary, Lucia, Elijah and Owynn Martin.  He is survived by his sister Gerry Hinz (Mickie Davies) and his brother-in-law Steve (Nancy) Porter along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Rosaline Martin, his brother James (Mary)Martin, his sister Pat Schwartz, parents-in-law Melvin and Mary Porter, sister-in-law Jeanette (Roger) Ware and brother-in-law Melvin “Mike” Porter.

The D. F. Martin family would like to express their gratitude for the attention provided to our loved one while cared for at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, Encompass Health and Rehab, The Pillars, Hattiesburg Health and Rehab, Forrest General Health Systems, and Asbury Hospice House and Vital Caring Group Hospice.
