David James Cross, a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend and Ultimate Teacher, age 42, of Bay St. Louis, MS, joined Our Heavenly Father on March 12, 2010.
David was born in Alexandria, VA. His family moved to Spotsylvania, VA during his childhood years. Upon graduation from Spotsylvania Senior High School, where he was a prominent athlete on the track and cross country teams as well as a very talented member of the Marching Band, David joined to serve in the United States Navy. During his distinguished 20 year career, He received his Seabee Combat Warfare Insignia pin, Petty Officer in Charge of the MKV Special Operations Craft, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist Insignia pin, 4 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, 2 Joint Service Achievement Medals and a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
After his retirement in 2005, David accepted a position as a Senior Field Engineer with the RTSC division of the Raytheon Corporation. He was the Assistant Shipboard Manager for Gulf Coast Operations on the Landing Platform Dock (LPD) Program. David was an expert on several of their systems. He worked on the Engineering Control Systems (ECS), Integrated Video Distribution System (IVDS), Interior Voice Communication System (IVCS), and Wirefree Portable Communications System (WPCS). David was the recognized expert on all of these systems and was often requested by the Navy to travel to Norfolk and San Diego to fix problems that were beyond their technical capabilities. He also received accolades for the training that he provided to the Navy technicians that made up the ships' crews.
David was a member of Bayou Talla Fellowship in Kiln, MS
David was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joseph & Lena (Cobetto) Perello, paternal grandparents, James & Kathryn Cross, and uncle David Frank Perello.
David is survived by his wife of nearly 18 years, Sara (Boardman) Cross, a daughter, Katelin Cross, a son Hunter Mitchell, his parents, Pauline Cross, Spotsylvania, VA, and Harry & Pam Cross, Locust Grove, VA, a twin brother, Joe Cross (Jenn), Cumberland, MD, a step-brother, Brian Raines (Amy), Locust Grove, VA, nephews: Joseph Cross, Arkansas and Garrett Raines, Locust Grove, VA, uncles Douglas Cross, Gainesville, VA and Ronnie Cross, Herndon, VA, aunt, Ida Josephine DeKousis, Gathersburg, MD, numerous inlaws, cousins, friends, and his beloved pets, Charlie, Gracie, Daisy and Bob.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Tuesday, March 16th, 7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 141 Main Street, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the Hancock County Animal Shelter, The Navy Relief Society, or any charitable organization.
