He was predeceased by his parents, William Russell Bobinger and Angeline Tolar Watson; step-father, Robert Watson; brothers, William Russell Bobinger, Jr., Kenneth Fred Bobinger; grandparents, Clyde and Pearl Tolar; and step-brother, Robert Watson, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Carolyn H. David grew up in Handsboro, Mississippi, before it was incorporated into Gulfport. He loved and kept communication with all the group he grew up with. He was instrumental in establishing a memorial wreath ceremony honoring all of the deceased who went to Handsboro Elementary. This year’s ceremony was recently featured on the local news. David always considered himself a “Handsboro boy.”
He graduated from Gulfport High School and went on to join the U.S. Air Force, serving proudly in Vietnam, where he was a Morse Code intercept operator and flew 135 combat missions, during which time he was shot down twice. He was most proud of his military service and kept in contact with his service buddies through the years.
David obtained his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Southern Mississippi, Gulf Park campus. He worked for various companies and retired as a systems analyst from Southern Company Services.
Known for his strong faith, David was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lyman for 37 years, where he had served on all committees of the church.
He was presented with the Key to the City and proclaimed by the mayor as the Official Ambassador of the City of Wiggins, Mississippi, and all of his friends and relatives know what that means! David was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt, and his love for gardening benefitted everyone.
He was a man for all generations. Everyone enjoyed his sense of humor and storytelling, from the youngest child to the oldest tourist in the USA and Canada!
All of us who have known and loved David, family and friends alike, know what a special privilege it is to have been part of his life. For anyone else, to have met David even once is to remember him forever.
