Darline McRoy, born on November 28, 1934, in Southern Illinois, has left behind a legacy that touched the hearts of many. She passed away on June 30, 2024, at her residence in Gulfport, Mississippi, at the age of 89.
Throughout her life, Darline wore many hats, each with its own story and significance. From being a dedicated waitress at her family's restaurant in Illinois, to working as a shoemaker alongside her mother at a plant in Illinois, Darline's work ethic and versatility knew no bounds. She later found joy in farming on her husband's farm in Illinois and exploring the open road as a long-haul truck driver. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone through as she ventured into owning a car delivery company from New Orleans to Mobile and up to Tennessee, and an antiques dealer in Gulfport and Long Beach.
Darline never met a stranger or stray she couldn't help. She never had many worldly possessions, but always went above and beyond to care for others. Her selflessness should always be remembered, celebrated, and a goal for all of us that mourn her passing.
Apart from her professional endeavors, Darline found solace and joy in various hobbies and interests. Whether it was painting, attending yard sales, estate sales, auctions, fishing, engaging in friendly card games, and enjoyed general construction, Darline embraced life with an infectious enthusiasm.
Over the years, Darline competed in many painting and sports competitions, winning or placing in many of them. Her favorites were her many hours spent with her bowling league, building her home, running her car delivery company, and dealing antiques.
Darline is preceded in death by her mother Eunice Hortense Conley, father Wilson Rex Conley, sisters Eunice Smith, Karen Knight, and Dolores Hayes, and son Kenny Williamson. She is survived by her daughter Mona Malley and son-in-law Ronald Malley, sisters Linda Williams (Bruce Williams), Kay Phillips (Jim Phillips), grandchildren Dustin Malley (Ashley Malley), Jacob Thomas, Joseph Williamson and Shannon Russell, great-grandchildren Cody Russell and Sierra Russell.
Darline McRoy's presence will be deeply missed but her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched with love and compassion. May we all strive to emulate the selflessness and care that defined her life.
