Daniel B. Killeen, Sr. died peacefully at his home in Pass Christian, MS surrounded by his family. Danny was born in New Orleans to Thomas E. and Alma Meyer Killeen. He graduated from Jesuit High School and Loyola University; received a Master's Degree from the University of Notre Dame and a PhD from Tulane University. He worked at IBM for four years followed by a 34 year career at Tulane where he served as the Computer Center Director for 25 years and proudly installed their first computer. Before retiring in 1994, Danny served as a professor in Tulane's Freeman School of Business.
From an early age Danny loved sailing. He was an avid yachtsman and competed in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, Australia in the Dragon Class. In 1996 he won the L-16 International Championship with sons Danny Jr. and John as his crew. He was active in local and national sailing organizations including Southern Yacht Club and The Gulf Yachting Association, serving each as Commodore. He was on the Board of Directors of the US Sailing Association and served as President of The Olympic Sailing Association of New Orleans. His passion for sailing and reliving the races knew no bounds.
Danny was predeceased by his son, Nalty Killeen and brother, Thomas Killeen, Jr.
Danny is survived by family, Karen Killeen Daly (John), Daniel Killeen, Jr., John Killeen, Diane Killeen, Robert Killeen (Betty), Sheryl Baltar and grandchildren Caroline, Jack, Meg, Kyle, Andrew, Thomas and Isabel.
A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Pass Christian on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 12:30pm with a visitation for family and friends from 11:30 am until the service. Interment will be private.
