Cornelius Bush

Cornelius Tyrone Bush, age 57, of Gulfport, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023.

Cornelius Tyrone Bush was born on January 24, 1966, to the late Joe Louis Sullivan and Mae Medina-Hurst, still living in Gulfport, Mississippi. Cornelious entered the military just after graduating high school. Due to a heart condition from birth, he was discharged after a short time.

Cornelius worked for JLB Contractors for approximately 15 years. He was known as “Cornbread” among his fellow coworkers. He worked faithfully as a pipe layer on many projects, including the Neighborhood Walmart on Hwy 49, one of his favorites.

Cornelius loved many things, including movies, music, art, bowling, and his unicycle. He wanted everyone to be better than they were yesterday. He could quote any phrase from any movie. He stood on letting his light shine in a room full of darkness, and often reminded others to do the same. He often referred to those he loved as “baby girl” or “baby boy.” So, if you said, “I love you!” He’d reply, “I love you too, baby girl/boy.”

His father, Joe Louis Sullivan; and grandmother, Lillie Dell Preston preceded him in death.

He will be greatly missed and always remembered by Teresa Bush (wife of 22 years) and children, Dallas Brooks (Devan Walker-Brooks), Megan Bush, Lillie Brooks, Phylicia Fitzsimons, Taylor Bush, Aaron Ung, Sam Ung, Dominick Tenny, Chelsie Tenny, Tabatha Lovan, Autana Lovan, Noah Lovan. He had twenty-four grandchildren. His siblings are Pastor Stevie Bush (Cynthia Bush), Deondray Perkins, Pastor Tonia Powell (Maurice Powell), and Eddie Perkins. He had a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a special thanks to his crew and boss at JLB Contractors.

Visitation will be 1:00 PM ro 2:00 PM, Monday, August 14, 2023, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport. A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM.
