Connie grew up Pennsylvania, and from an early age she dedicated herself to the needs of others. In her youth, she read most of the books in her town library. She served her country during World War II, assembling radars for military aircraft. She met her future husband at the age of 18, and both knew within one week of meeting that they would marry and start a family together.
She called the Gulf Coast her home and spent most of her life here raising six children of whom she was very proud. She served her community as a school crossing guard, a fitness instructor for the elderly, a troop leader for the Girl Scouts, a den mother for the Boy Scouts and as a volunteer poll worker. She was a founding member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was a good friend.
She loved music and could always be heard singing a song or humming a favorite melody. She sang in the church choir, the Sweet Adeline’s chorus and in her kitchen, all the time.
She and her husband built their home in the Bayou View community and lived there for over seven decades. Together they fulfilled two of their shared lifelong passions, traveling the country and enjoying time with family.
Her greatest joy was her children. She shared with them her wisdom, her compassion, her strength and her resilience. She never asked for anything but gave much of herself for the benefit of others. She had a profound appreciation for life. And though ever an optimist, she experienced more than her fair share of loss and difficult life experiences. Yet through it all she remained a role model and a source of strength that others could rely upon.
Her family and friends loved her very much, and her absence will be felt by those who had the benefit of knowing her. But the things she taught us and the love she willingly gave are gifts that will live on in our hearts and minds, and therefore she will always be close. As Mom always said, “heartstrings stretch”.
