Constance, better known as Connie, by people in Biloxi, passed away on August 18, 2021, at the age of 82. She was born in Springfield, Ohio on June 21, 1939. Connie was the beloved only child of Fred and Eleanore Haley, who preceded her in passing. Connie will be reunited with her late husband, Keyolan George Light, who passed in 2016 after 47 years of marriage. She is survived by her two sons; Kevin (Anna) Light of Acworth, Georgia, and Eric (Kathleen) Light of Mobile, Alabama. Connie was also blessed with eleven grandchildren including five step-grandchildren. Her grandchildren include Kevin’s children; Andrew, Kyle and Aiden, and Eric’s children; Mackenzie, Savannah, Ethan and step-children; Bridget, Ivy, Trace, Fiona, and Martha Rose. She is also survived by dear family friends, Stacey and Brian Osberghaus, Karen Schofield, Mandy Overby and faithful companion, Scout.
Connie graduated from high school in 1956 in Springfield, Ohio. Connie then attended The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Ohio State is where she met her future husband, Keyolan.
While continuing to court George, Connie moved to the state of Georgia after graduating from Ohio State. She lived on St. Simons Island and worked as the Assistant Director of Patient Care at Glynn Brunswick Memorial Hospital in Brunswick, Georgia. Connie and George married on October 28, 1968, at the St. Simons Methodist Church later relocating to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. Two years later Connie and George welcomed their first child, Kevin. The family was completed two years later with the addition of a second son, Eric. During this time Connie enjoyed being a stay-at-home mother. She was actively involved with the Officer Wives Club and other activities where she met life-long friends while living in the area.
Connie moved with George around the country for his various military deployments. After stops in Hawaii and Idaho, Connie and George eventually landed in Biloxi, Mississippi. Biloxi became their home and where they would eventually retire.
Connie then started working for the Biloxi School System as a nurse in several of the local elementary schools. This is where she became a fixture in the community helping the children both in and outside her schools. Everyone appreciated Connie’s boundless love and caring. She was known by everyone as a person with a large heart that would help in any situation.
Connie was an active member of the Biloxi Exchange Club and The Red Hat Society for multiple years. As much as she enjoyed helping others, her greatest pride was in being a mother and grandmother. She was a rabid fan and loved watching her Ohio State Buckeyes and New Orleans Saints football teams!
Connie will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial gift in Connie’s name to St. Jude’s Children Hospital in Memphis, TN.
