Conrad Morris Mallette, 71, of Vancleave, died Saturday, July 14, 2007 in Ocean Springs.
Mr. Mallette was a native and lifelong resident of Vancleave and after graduation, he served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Keesler Air Force Base as a carpenter and after retirement, he worked on his family farm. Mr. Mallette peddeled potatos and sweet potatos and affectionally became known as """"tater man."""" He was a member of First Baptist Church, Vancleave, a board member and finance committee member of Pat Harrison Waterway District, a director of the Soil and Water Conservation Commission, member and longtime president of the Jackson County Farm Bureau Association, member of the Farm Service Agency, and a member of the Cattleman's Association. Mr. Mallette enjoyed hunting and spending time with his cows on the farm.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kyle Mallette, his parents, Harry and Jane Mallette, and a brother, Harry B. Mallette.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Jean Mallette, his children, Connie Sajwaj, Stacey Strickland, Ken Mallette, Toni Horne, Lynn Jurisich, Cyndi Mallette, and Brandy Davis, 2 brothers, Mosley Mallette and Glynn Mallette, 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 17, 2007 from 9 - 11 am at First Baptist Church, Vancleave. The funeral service will be at 11 am in the church sanctuary.
Interment will be in Vancleave Cemetery, Jim Ramsey Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be sent to the MS Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers and Ranchers Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 1952, Jackson, MS 39215, or First Baptist Church of Vancleave Building Fund, 12513 Hwy 57, Vancleave, MS 39565.
