Retired Major Conrad O. Hicks, passed away on November 20, 2010, at the age of 82.
Major Hicks is the son of Elmer and Edna Hicks, Parma, MO. He attended the Parma schools for 12 years graduating in 1946. That same year he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Japan with the Occupation Forces. Upon discharge in 1948 he returned to Parma and in 1950 was recalled from the Army Reserve to active duty serving one year in Korea and was again discharged in 1951. He then attended Arkansas State College, Jonesboro, Ark. and graduated in 1954. Upon graduation he accepted a regular Army commission serving until 1974, retiring as a Major. He received the following decorations: Bronze Star Medal in connection with ground operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam; Army Commendation Medal with first Oak Leaf Cluster; Purple Heart; Good Conduct; World War II Victory Medal; Occupation of Japan Medal; American Defense Medal with first Oak Leaf Cluster; Korean Campaign Medal with one Battle Star; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Ribbon: and the United Nations Medal.
Ret. Major Hick's is survived by his wife of 56 years Nora Jane Hicks, and his four children, Donna, Gail, Conrad, and Allen. As well as, a brother Don. He was also the grandfather of five and great-grandfather of four. Preceded in death by his son, Kevin Hicks, and grandson, Dwayne Ayo. He was truly loved and will be deeply missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing on November 29, 2010 at 11:30-12:30 pm, as well as the funeral at 12:30 pm at the Riemann Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Rd., Biloxi, MS 39531. Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
