Colonel Cecil L. 'Lee' Lott, Jr., United States Army-Retired, went to be with his Lord on December 17, 2016.
Lee was born on February 14, 1958, in Gulfport, MS, to Cecil and Dorothy Lott. Lee grew up in Long Beach and attended Long Beach Public Schools. He was selected for the Hall of Fame for Long Beach Junior High, and graduated from Long Beach High School with honors in 1976. Lee was active in sports and other high school activities. He was an active member of DeMolay where he served as the State Senior Counselor for two years and the State Master Counselor for one year. He attended the University of Mississippi on an Army ROTC Scholarship and graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate with a BA in Business in 1980. Lee honorably served in the Army for 24 years using his multiple skills in many positions including Tank Platoon Leader, Aeroscout and Attack Pilot, Apache Operations Officer, Special Operations Staff Officer for Central Command, Air Traffic Control Commander in Korea, and Inspector General for the State of Indiana. Lee was an Airborne Ranger and Aviator and was qualified as a pilot of the UH-1H (Huey), OH-58 Alpha and Charlie (Kiowa), and AH-1 (Cobra) Attack helicopters. While in the Army, Lee was one of a distinguished, small group of officers selected to attend the School of Advanced Military Studies where he earned a Master's Degree in Military Arts and Science. Graduates were commonly referred to as Jedi Knights. He also earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Golden Gate University. Upon retirement, Lee worked for Lockheed Martin and ITT. Additionally, after retirement and with his desire to serve his country and its military, he accepted a Defense Contract position and worked as a readiness planner in Kabul, Afghanistan for seven months in 2001 in one of the highest threat years in Afghanistan.
He is survived by his former spouse, Laurie Wilson; and two sons, Tyler and Trent, all of Indianapolis, Indiana; his mother, Dorothy Lott of Long Beach; sister, Brenda Lott Belote (William)of Gainesville, Florida; and sister, Melba Lott Campbell (Michael) of Hayden, Alabama.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach, from 4-6 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at 10 am in the funeral home chapel, where friends may visit one hour prior. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wiggins with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Seashore Highlands or Long Beach High School in Lee's memory.
