Lawrence M. "Larry" Rouse Jr., Colonel, USAF (Retired), of Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away from natural causes on September 12, 2019 at 89 years of age.
Col. Rouse was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Gregory Rouse of Grafton, Virginia; his parents, Lawrence M. and Catherine "Cassie" Edwards Rouse; his sisters, Mary Lou Rouse Adams and Eleanor Rouse Jackson; and his niece, Mary Helen Jackson.
He is survived by his daughter, Amelia Ann Rouse Murphy (spouse, Michael) as well as by his son, Lawrence McCarley Rouse III; his grandchildren, Emma Alexandra Rouse, Lawrence McCarley Rouse IV, and Madeleine Anne Rouse; and his nieces and nephews, Walter Adams, Cathi Adams Gray, Boyce Adams, and Larry Adams.  He also leaves behind and will be fondly remembered by many dear friends.
Lawrence M. Rouse was born in 1929 in Gulfport, Mississippi and grew up in Gulfport and Biloxi.  He graduated Gulfport High School ('47) before joining the United States Air Force in 1953.  He became a tactical fighter pilot and flew F-86D and F-100 jets in overseas and domestic service including with the 496 th Fighter Interceptor Squadron in Hahn, Germany. Col. Rouse also flew a Cessna 0-1 Bird dog in a close air support role in combat during the Vietnam conflict. He completed his service at Langley AFB, Virginia and following retirement returned to Biloxi where he renewed old friendships. Larry was a member of the ROMEO Club, Club 47, and the Great Southern Golf Club.  He was a lifelong fisherman and hunter and an accomplished wingshot with numerous trophies won on the skeet field. He was also a good cook and a gourmand who loved a good meal and will be remembered for, among other things, his barbecue ribs and potato salad, venison chile, steamed crabs, and flawless rendition of his mother's cold-oven pound cake.
A memorial service will be held September 28, 2019 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, at 11:00 AM, with a visitation for family and friends from 10:00 AM until the service.  Continuing his service, Colonel Rouse donated his body for the advancement of science.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
