Col. Chambers

Col. (Dr.) William Dean Chambers, age 86 passed into eternal peace on March 22, 2017 in Ocean Springs.
He was a native of Oklahoma and had been a resident of Biloxi and Ocean Springs since 1988. He attended high school in Owensboro, Kentucky, and served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He studied premedical training in Kentucky and Oklahoma and attended Des Moines University in 1962 where he received his Doctorate. After years of private practice in Oklahoma and Florida, he resumed his military career in 1975 at Shaw AFB, Sumter, SC and retired in 1993 as Director of Aeromedical Services at Keesler AFB Medical Center, Biloxi, MS.
He received numerous awards during his career and was presented with the Legion of Merit at his retirement ceremony.
After retiring, he enjoyed playing golf, especially at Sunkist Country Club. Col. Chambers was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Ocean Springs.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Madalyn Holt Chambers; parents, James Maxwell Chambers, and Allie Day Chambers; and his brother, Dr. Charles Chambers.
Col. Chambers is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Gwendolyn G. Chambers; his children, Deana Chambers Wilson (Wales Wilson, Jr.), and William "Billy" Dean Chambers; step-sons: J. David Hughes (Kim), and Marshall Danley Hughes, (Lynn); his brother, Dr. Thomas E. Chambers, Sr.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and other loving family members and friends.
The family would like to give special thanks to Jamie of Ocean Springs Home Health Care, AnLin and Janet, who were special caregivers, and to special friends Louise Slote and Barbara Webster.
Friends are invited to visit from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi. The funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. followed by interment with full military honors in Biloxi National Cemetery.
