Pat Olmi, 61, a native of Shaw and longtime resident of Gulfport, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2019, after a brief illness. He formerly was head baseball coach for Harrison Central High School, having retired in May 2017.
Olmi was born Aug. 23, 1958, to Quinto and Hamby Olmi, who preceded him in death, as did a brother, Frankie. Survivors include sister, Anne (Rod) Olmi Ceasar of Montgomery, AL., brother Joe (Canda) Olmi of Hattiesburg, brother Michael (Lori Henson) Olmi of Youngsville, LA, seven adoring nieces and nephews, numerous great-nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Pat was fiercely loyal to his Red Rebels and was known for being a fixture at Harrison Central athletic events across all sports.
He attended Mississippi State University and was a graduate assistant under legendary coach Ron Polk before taking a coaching job at Rolling Fork in the Mississippi Delta. Olmi took over the HCHS baseball program in 1996. Numerous students remember him for his humor, generosity and direct but caring style.
