Mr. Clyde Eugene """"Gene"""" Townsend, age 83, former resident of Gulfport, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2010.
Mr. Townsend was born in Miami, FL to Clyde Monroe Townsend and Lona Slade Townsend Kilpatrick. He was a longtime resident of the Coast and Mobile and graduated from Long Beach High School and the University of Southern Mississippi. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and Korea. Mr. Townsend worked for Walgreen's Co. for many years in marketing and sales.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, J.J. Kilpatrick; wife of 46 years, Geneva """"Jean"""" Ellison Townsend; nephew, Alan Jones.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Todd) Parr of Niceville, FL; two grandchildren, Hannah (Adam) Rhoads of Niceville, FL, and Jason Parr of Hurst, TX; sister, Louise Jones of Saucier; niece, Debbie Jones Eubanks of Saucier.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Gulf Haven Mennonite Church, at 11 a.m. Friends may visit one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Hattiesburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gulf Haven Caring Fund, 21497 Mennonite Road, Gulfport, MS 39503.
