Clarence Manka

July 10, 1930 — January 7, 2021

Biloxi

Clarence Joseph Manka, age 90, lost his battle with COVID-19 on January 7, 2021.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodora and Alois Manka and his sister Beatrice Muldoon, all of Chicago, IL. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edith (Edye), his sons Ken of Blairsville, GA and Mark Peterson (Nancy) of Ocean Springs, MS, his grandson Christopher Peterson of Austin, TX and his two cats Coco and Cleo.
Joe was a proud Marine and served as a navigator in the Korean War. He and his wife moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast from the Chicagoland area in 2014 to be closer to his son's family. Joe was a life-long car enthusiast and raced Midget cars semi-professionally in the 1950's and 60's while he owned and operated a body shop and gas station. He spent his career as a service and general manager at car dealerships in Chicago, the southeastern US, and Ohio. He enjoyed photography when he was young and model train building later in life. Joe loved to fish, worked in a fishing store, and took several trips to game fish in Canada after his retirement. Joe had a great sense of humor and always put his family first.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project (by calling 877.832.6997 or email them at donorcare@woundedwarriorproject.org).
