Claire Bryant Savell, 74, of Gulfport, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, in Gulfport.
Mrs. Savell, a lifelong resident of Gulfport, was a graduate of Gulf Park College and Memphis State College. She received her Master of Library Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She taught for 26 years and was librarian at Anniston Elementary School for 15 years. Mrs Savell was a member of First Baptist Church in Gulfport, served as librarian there for 15 years, and was a volunteer with the church Food Pantry. She was a member of Beta Phi Mu International Library Science Honor Society, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Mrs. Savell was a member of the National Society of the Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, National Society of Daughters, Founders, and Patriots of America, National Society of the Colonial Dames XVIIth Century, and Friendship Oak Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the Gulfport Yacht Club and enjoyed the outdoors.
Mrs. Savell was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Ray and Louise Terrell Bryant; her first husband, Alvin Prescott Stearns; and her second husband, John Kermit Savell.
Survivors include her brother, Leslie Ray Bryant, Jr., and his wife, Annie, of Diamondhead; aunts, Christine Dockery, of Hernando, MS; Nancy Holliday, of Mobile, AL; and Mary Bryant, of San Antonio, TX; nieces, Brenda Bryant, of Destrehan, LA; Barbara Gills, of Ft. Smith, AR; nephew, Lt. Col. Leslie Ray Bryant III, M.D., of San Antonio, TX; and a great-niece and two great-nephews.
Visitation will be at Grace Memorial Baptist Church, 2301 23rd Avenue in Gulfport on Friday, July 29, 2006, from 1:00 p.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be in Southern Memorial in Biloxi.
