Christine Sly

July 22, 1932 — September 9, 2018

Christine H. Sly, age 86 of Perkinston, passed away to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday September 9, 2018 in Ocean Springs, where she was living for the past two years.  She was a life-long resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and attended Red Baptist Church in Perkinston, Mississippi.  She worked at Gulfport Mail Facility with the United States Postal Service, where she was employed as a rural mail carrier until her retirement. Mrs. Sly was born on July 22, 1932 in Poplarville, MS, where she grew up and attended school before moving to Gulfport.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis J. Sly; one son, Kenneth "Big Ricky" Breland; and  her parents, Walter Hyatt and Lola Smith McGough.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Ricky) Magnusen, and Cyndi Chiniche (Olen) Parker of Perkinston; and one son, Randy (Mary Martha) Breland of Gulfport;  10 grandchildren, Tony Magnusen of Gulfport and Dianne Herrmann Adams also of Gulfport, Kristen (Ray) Miller of Gulfport, Jonathan Chiniche of  Long Beach, Shani Parker of Perkinston and Kari (Parker) Cooper of Petal, Andrew (Juan) Breland of Hattiesburg, Adam (Kaitren) Breland of Gulfport, Jared Alford of Gulfport and Maegan Alford of Gulfport; and 8  great grandchildren, Abigail Adams, Brynleigh Parker, Heith Cooper, Riley Cooper, and Easton Cooper; Kaysen Breland, Layten Breland, and Caleb Alford.
Her hobbies included gardening, traveling, shopping and spending time with her family.  She was generous, loving, and supportive and taught that meekness was a virtue.  Christine was the epitome of what a mother and grandmother should be.  She was always in attendance for any event that one of her children or grandchildren participated in.  She never met a stranger and all that ever met her loved her.   She was the anchor of this family and will be strongly missed.

My mother...
My hope, love, and strength
My courage, best friend, and sister
My spiritual leader, counselor, and caretaker
My everything and I will cherish and remember her till the end of time.
