Chester Alanson Wilcox, age 101, of Ocean Springs, passed away on October 19, 2011 in Ocean Springs.
Uncle Chester was born on July 4, 1910 in Cleveland, Ohio. He married Madeline Low of Cleveland, Ohio in 1938 to whom he was married for 38 years. Chester served as member of the US Army's 118th Radio Intelligence Company in various European campaigns of World War II including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Ardennes. After the war, Uncle Chester worked for the US Department of Veteran's Affairs in Biloxi and later in Augusta, GA. In 1957 he became the supply officer for the VA hospital in New York City. Chester retired to Biloxi in 1970 where he built a house, pursued his love of golf, and became active in the Red Cross. In 1977, Uncle Chester married Vivian Williamson Mills to whom he was married for 26 years.
Uncle Chester lived a full life and was a wonderful person to be around. He was good natured, intelligent, had a great sense or humor, and was always full of grace.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Madeline, his second wife, Vivian, his brother Elton, and his niece Barbara Andrus of Tujunga, CA. He is survived by his niece Lynnette (Ed) Kurzyniec of Chatsworth, CA and his niece Sandra (Tom) Price of Ocean Springs.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2011 at the chapel at Southern Memorial Park which is located at 2000 Beach Boulevard (Hwy 90) in Biloxi. Visitation begins at 9am and the service begins at 10am.
