Chet Whitaker, 70, of Long Beach, MS, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2023, at Driftwood Nursing Center in Long Beach, MS. He was born on August 22, 1952, in Indianapolis, IN, to parents Emma (Maiden Name: Hostetler) and Howard Whitaker.
Chet served his country for 4 years in the United States Air Force from October 12, 1970, to October 11, 1974. He was very proud to have served his country.
Chet enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching Indy Car Racing and most of all he loved his INDIANA HOOSIERS BASKETBALL (HOO HOO HOO HOOSIERS!!!!!). One of his top achievements and the one that made a lasting effect on so many kids from the south side of Indianapolis IN, was that he was responsible for getting the PERRY SOUTH STARS High School hockey program started up back in the early 1990’s. They have gone on to win 3 state championships.
Chet was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his wife of 23 years Jeanne Whitaker and children Brian (Briana) Whitaker and Joshua (Susan) Whitaker. He was a proud grandfather of four grandchildren (Mackenzie, Cindol, Joseph & Christopher).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society .
Rest in peace, Chet. Your dedication to your family and friends was one of a kind and will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
The visitation for family and friends will be at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach, MS, from 2:00 PM until 3:00PM, Saturday, June 17, 2023.
