Chester Lundy

May 19, 1935 — November 5, 2021

Lake Charles, Lousiana

It is with great sorrow that the Lundy family announces the passing of our beloved uncle, Chester E. Lundy. Uncle Chet passed on November 6, 2021, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, after an extended battle with cancer.

Chester E. Lundy (86 years old) was born May 19, 1935 in Welch, West Virginia to Earl Vincent Lundy and Etta Virginia Nunn Lundy. Originally from Ocala, Florida, Chet entered military service at the age of 19 in the United States Air Force as an Electronics Technician. Following his active military service from 1954 to 1958, he worked for the Sperry-Rand Corporation until 1960. In 1960, he again answered the call to serve the Nation, as a Department of Air Force Civilian at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi as an Electronics Instructor and Supervisor. Over his 30-year career he instructed thousands of Air Force Airmen in electronics maintenance and operations. He was married to Nancy Gardner in 1954 and remained happily married until her passing in 1989. Nancy was truly his inspiration and rock.

Following his retirement from civil service, Chet owned and operated his own small business restoring cars and was an active supporter of the Mississippi State Police. He was an avid pilot, owning multiple airplanes and helicopters, and would often tell stories of his flying adventures with his best friend George Saxon. Chet was also a gifted auto mechanic and loved to restore old cars and trucks and was always excited when he would find some unique treasure at the many auctions he frequented. However, his most treasured memories were the extensive travels around the country that he and Nancy did in their many Motor Homes over the years.  Although he and Nancy never had children, Chet loved his nephews like his own sons and was a strong and caring figure in their lives.

Chet was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Virginia Lundy; wife, Nancy Gardner Lundy; his younger brother, David G. Lundy; and his great nephews, William and Thomas Lundy.

He is survived by his former sister-in-law Jacquelyn Hennigan; nephew, Mike Lundy and wife Paula and great niece Kacie Fountain and husband Jake and great niece Sydnie Lundy; his nephew, Mark Lundy and his wife Lillian and great niece Isabella; and his nephew, Shane Lundy.

The interment service, with military honors, will be conducted with close friends and family at Consolata Cemetery, in Lake Charles, Louisiana at 11:00 am on Monday, November 15, 2021. Uncle Chet’s wishes were to be cremated and laid to rest beside his brother, David Lundy, in Lake Charles and his wife, Nancy Lundy, in Ocala, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society in remembrance of Chester and Nancy Lundy.

Uncle Chet will be truly missed by his family and friends. Service to the Nation and his family were his guiding principles and his positive impact as a humble and quiet man of strong principles will not be forgotten.
