Cheri Jane McHugh, age 83 of Gulfport, passed away on August 12, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clay and Myra Hall; sister, Roxanne Brewton; brothers, Leslie Hall and Patrick Hall; first husband, Herbert Thornton; daughter, Myra Thornton; second husband, Pat McHugh.
Cheri is survived by her sister, Judy Tucker (Doice); brother, Robert Hall (Jeannine); sisters-in-law, Dixie Faulkner and Ann Long; daughter, Mikki Bowers (Denny); son, James Thornton (Beth); and grandchildren, Roxanne Ayres (Jim), Emily Bowers, Stephen Bowers, Christopher Thornton, and Lee Anne Wernecke (Jason); great-grandchildren, Alexis Wernecke and Julianne Wernecke.
Cheri graduated from Cartridge High School as Valedictorian. She became a school teacher and taught for many years in the Harrison County school system. She was also a former co-owner of Patches Auto Parts.
Cheri loved to garden, especially vegetables and flowers. She loved her family, especially all of her grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks for Natalie Ulmer, who lovingly cared for Mrs. McHugh.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at RIEMANNFAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Carthage, MS.
