Charlotte Carter Forsythe, a true southern lady of deep faith, grace and charm, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 20, 2021. She was the daughter of Henry Morton Carter and Bessie Grubbs Carter and was born at home, in Charlotte, NC on Mar. 4, 1926. She graduated from Central High School in 1944 and then attended Queens College. On Aug. 23, 1946, she married her sweetheart Thomas “Tom” Forsythe and was a proud Air Force wife for 60 wonderful years. She and Tom are now reunited in Heaven.
In the years of marriage and raising a family, she moved 14 times. She relished the adventure of seeing the world and allowed herself to “bloom where she was planted”, engaging in her local community including military spouse support organizations. After moving to Biloxi in 1970, she devoted herself to her community, specifically through First Baptist Church, where she was “on mission”. She taught Sunday School in the youth group for many years, helped establish the Maranatha Sunday School class in later years, sang in the senior adult choir, mentored women throughout the community, was a faithful prayer warrior, served as a member of the welcoming committee and was known for her gracious hospitality of hosting beautiful wedding showers and luncheons in her home.
All of these actions sprang from her love for God, love of His Word, and love for people. She loved because He first loved her (1 John 4:19). Whether you had just met her or had known Charlotte for years, she always made you feel known and loved. She shared her life with others and invited others to share theirs with her. Because she abided daily with Christ, the fruits of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal. 5:22-24) - were strongly evident in her life. She embodied the characteristics of a Proverbs 31 woman, always loving and caring for others before herself. Above all, she wanted everyone to know her Savior and to personally trust in Him. She took every opportunity she could to share the Gospel with everyone she encountered.
She was loved by everyone who knew her and was adored by her family. Her deep faith in God sustained her throughout her life and she dutifully imparted His truths to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Chip Forsythe and wife Mary of Ellisville, MS and daughters Mary Jane Forsythe of Memphis, TN, Annette Anthony of Scottsdale, AZ, and Patrice Shelby and husband Charlie of Dallas, TX. She was “Grandmother” to grandchildren William Anthony and wife Rachel, Charlotte Flynn and husband Barrett, and Grace Anthony, all of Scottsdale, AZ, James Anthony and husband Woody of New York, NY, Sara Beth Forsythe of Ellisville, MS, and Caroline Hillman and husband Trip and Graham Shelby, all of Dallas, TX; great-grandchildren Kaylee Coker, Lottie, Henry, Sam and Jacob Flynn, and William and Corrine Anthony; and great-great granddaughter London Campbell.
The family is extremely grateful for the devoted, loving care provided over the last 10 months by her caretakers at Presbyterian Village in Dallas. Sheena, Leon and Hailey spent countless hours with Charlotte (and even played tennis!) during the pandemic while we were often unable to visit in-person. We are also grateful for the excellent team at Medical City Dallas who cared for Charlotte throughout her short battle with COVID-19.
While our hearts are deeply saddened with her sudden passing, we can confidently rejoice knowing Charlotte is safely home in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, resting in His eternal peace. She magnified Him during her 94 years on earth. What a celebration they are having in Heaven welcoming such a good and faithful servant! A Memorial Service honoring Charlotte’s wonderful life and legacy will be held at First Baptist Church, Biloxi on Friday, Jan. 29 at 11:30 a.m. The service will also be live streamed on the First Baptist Church Biloxi Facebook page. A reception following all Covid protocols (masks will be required, and social distancing will be enforced) will be held immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her memory to First Baptist Church, Biloxi at www.fbcbiloxi.org
