Charles W. Benefield, a native of Enterprise, Alabama and long-time resident of Harrison County, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2023, in Gulfport at the age of 90. He was born on October 2, 1933, in Chancellor, Alabama. Charles was the beloved husband of Wanda Lee Benefield for 50 wonderful years.
Throughout his remarkable life, Charles was known for his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to his craft. He owned and operated Benefield Masonry, a successful commercial masonry business, for an impressive 61 years. His commitment to excellence and hard work earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and community.
Outside of his professional life, Charles had a rich array of interests and talents. He was a very talented musician. Additionally, he found great joy in flying as a commercial airline pilot. However, what truly brought him the most happiness was the time he spent with his family. Cherished memories were made during gatherings filled with laughter and love.
Charles had a kind heart and gave generously to causes close to his heart. He actively promoted the building of churches and supported missions that aimed to make a positive impact on communities far and wide. Furthermore, he took an active role in fostering children in need, providing them with love, guidance, and support.
One phrase that often fell from Charles' lips was "I am truly blessed." This sentiment encapsulates not only his gratitude for the blessings in his own life but also how he approached each day with genuine appreciation for all that he held dear.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Rev. D.P. Benefield and Mrs. Johnnie Maud Benefield; his sister Syble Powers, as well as sons Darian Benefield and Larry Benefield.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Wanda and their children: Darrell (Amanda) Benefield, Danny (Debbie) Benefield, Timothy (Rhonda) Benefield, and Patti (Keith) Greene. Charles was a loving grandfather to Shaylyn Benefield, Kaycee (Matt) Bingman, Matthew Benefield, Taylor Benefield, TJ Benefield, Jacob Greene, Blake (Amy) Benefield, Tanya Jones, and Billy Joe Kelley.
