Charles H. Satchfield, 93, a lifelong resident of Gulfport, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014 in Gulfport.
Mr. Satchfield was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees, serving in World War II. He retired from the Sun Herald where he was a long-time production foreman.
Mr. Satchfield was an amateur archaeologist, and was a former president of the Mississippi Archaeology Association, Gulf Coast Chapter. He was a member of Handsboro United Methodist Church.
Mr. Satchfield was a member of the Polar Star Lodge 154, Royal Arch Mason, Knight Templar and the Shriners. He was also a member of the Star Twirlers Square Dance Club, the Bottle Club, the Gem and Mineral Society and for many years he cracked pecans for the public.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Grace Barrett Satchfield; parents, Charles H. Satchfield and Ada Broadus Satchfield; and his siblings, Esco, William and R.B. Satchfield, and Peggy Bush.
He is survived by his daughter, Catherine Satchfield Burgess and husband, Phillip of Chattanooga, Tenn.; nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends.
The Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Handsboro United Methodist Church.
