Charles Ray, age 79, of Lyman, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. Ray has been in broadcasting for over 50 years, both in radio and television. His early years, 1940's and early 1950's, were spent at stations in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Iowa. In the 50's he worked in Jackson, MS, Dallas, TX and Shreveport, LA. In the 1960's Charles worked for both WNOE and WTIX in New Orleans. In the 1970's he worked with stations in Indianapolis and in Oregon. In 1991, he moved to Mississippi and worked at WKNN for 10 years, then he moved to work with Dowdy Broadcasting until he retired in May of this year.
Mr. Ray was preceded in death by his mother, Charlene Ray and his father, E.C. Ray.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Myra Ray; one daughter, Ilsa Carlile; and son, Ashley Ray; step-son, Bobby Guidry; and three step-grandchildren.
The family will have private services at a later date and they requests any memorial contributions in Charles's name be made to the Humane Society of your choice.
