TSgt Charles Edward ""Chuck"" Mink Sr., 76, died January 9, 2015, surrounded by and in the comfort of his loving family.
Chuck was born to Floyd C Mink and Evelyn Ogden Mink in Hudson, NY, the first of three sons. He graduated from Chatham Central High School and joined the United States Air Force, where he served for 21 years before retiring as a TSgt. During his USAF career as a Command Center Technician and Aerospace Traffic Control Supervisor/Instructor, he was stationed overseas as well as many places around the US, eventually landing at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, where he met and married his wife of 49 years, Ann Carver Mink. The Air Force would take them many places until finally settling in her home town of Long Beach, MS where he would live out the remainder of his life.
After his Air Force career, he worked for Republic Airlines and Bell Aerospace Textron before joining the Harrison County Sherriff's Department, retiring from there as a Sergeant in 2000.
He was raised in the Dutch Reformed Church and later converted to Catholicism. He was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Long Beach, serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Commentator/Lector and Usher for many years. He was a long time 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus St Vincent De Paul Council 4898, currently serving as Faithful Comptroller, and previously as Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator. He was inducted as a lifetime member of the Carnival Association of Long Beach where he served on the Board as Treasurer and was a Duke on numerous teams before eventually earning his beloved title of King Scott XXXVIII in 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jon Mink. He is survived by his wife, Ann Carver Mink; three sons, Chuck Mink Jr (Darlene) of Eleanor WV, Steven Mink (Jennifer) of Long Beach, MS and Jason Mink (Emily Hess) of Denton, TX; five daughters, Pamela Doss (Calvin) of Nitro, WV, Lisa Frazer (Donald) of Long Beach, MS, Jennifer Lizana (Jeremy) of Purcell, OK, Carolyn Mink (Denis Dergelev) of Long Beach, MS and Robin Mink (Michelle Smith) of Las Vegas, NV; along with 21 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, brother, David Mink (Kathy) of Hudson NY, and numerous nieces, nephews & extended family and friends, including Jackie Taylor Wilkinson and her daughters, whom he loved like his own.
The family would like to acknowledge his long time physicians David LaRosa, MD, Stephen Baker, MD, Jim Thriffiley, MD and Augustine Lee, MD (Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville) for their years of dedication and exceptional care as well as the doctors and nurses of the 5th floor ICU of Memorial Hospital at Gulfport for the support, compassion and care provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made, in his name, to the St. Vincent De Paul Society of St. Thomas Parish or to the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 12, 2015, from 6 - 8 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 E Beach Blvd., Long Beach, MS.
Interment will be in Long Beach City Cemetery.
