Charles Lizana, Sr.

Charles W. “Sonny” Lizana, Sr., age 83 of Gulfport, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022.

He was preceded by his father, Haven Lizana; his mother, Vida Lizana; his son, Charles “Chuck” Lizana, Jr.; his granddaughter, Krystal Lizana; his sisters, Dolores Necaise and Muriel Schruff; and his mother-in-law, Luvie Cuevas.

Sonny is survived by his wife of 31 years, Donna Lizana; his children, Brian Lizana, Sherry Trussell (Mike), Sonya Breland, Vickie Lizana (Meg); his stepchildren, Derek Trosclair (Jodi), and Tonya Rollins (Gene); his grandchildren, Charles Lizana, III., Tyler Lizana, Melissa Lizana, Janelle Lizana, Joshua Lizana, Stuart Breland, Rachael Stout, Brittany Tinson, Sidney Lizana, Drew Trosclair, Gunnar Trosclair, Lane Trosclair, Trey Rollins and Victoria Rollins; also 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sonny was an Air Force veteran and served his country proudly. He was a welder at CE Natco for 17 years, he also worked at Harrison County Schools Facilities Maintenance department. He was a former Harrison County School Board Member. He won the 2001 Senior Olympic Gold medal in tennis. Sonny loved all sports and excelled at tennis; he was also an avid swimmer. He exercised daily and always had a workout regimen.

Sonny touched many lives over his 83 years. He coached many young baseball players who became coaches themselves. He umpired countless baseball tournaments and refereed many community basketball games. He was a determined, hard working man of great character and he took great pride in all that he did. He will be missed dearly by his family and by many in the community.

Visitation will be from 5:00-6:00 PM, Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, with a service to follow at 6:00PM.
