Charles Harrison

Charles Thomas Harrison Sr., age 67, of Biloxi, MS left this world in his classic antique car on Friday, October 21, 2011. A lifelong resident of Biloxi, MS. He was born October 29, 1943.
Preceded in death by his parents, Blanche Fayard Harrison and Curtis Richard Harrison , Sr. and a brother Timothy Michael Harrison. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathleen Broom Harrison; two children, daughter, Charlotte Harrison Newman, son, Charles Thomas Harrison, Jr. He is survived by his siblings, Helen Harrison Ruffin (Byron), Joy Harrison Goundas (Angelo) and Curtis R. Harrison, Jr. (Donna) all of Biloxi, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Charlie graduated from Biloxi High School in 1961, attended elementary school where he served as an altar boy at Nativity BVM Cathedral, attended Notre Dame High School. He attended U.S.M. and majored in Business Administration.
He was proud of serving in the National Guard at Ocean Springs, initiated into the Knights of Columbus Council #1244 in 1965, served as the Treasurer of the Knights of Columbus up until the time of his death.
He first worked on the Shrimp Bowl in 1967 and served as the General Chairman of the Shrimp Bowl Classic in 1992, 1995, and 1996. Charlie was the owner and President of Harrison Realty, Inc. for 33 years, a company woven into Biloxi's history since 1882.
In his role as owner of Harrison Realty, he silently and generously helped to improve the lives of others by lending business expertise to them. Many visitors at the hospital were heard to say ""if not for Charles Harrison, I would not be where I am today"". He generously gave of his time to many organizations such as, Biloxi Lions Club, Biloxi Business Men's Club and Biloxi Planning Commission, and Board member of the People's Bank. His many hobbies included the restoration of antique cars and furniture, gardening, fishing and boating. He was a long time member of the Lighthouse Cruiser's Antique Car Club, which took him and his wife to shows around the country. As a result, he gained national attention from many national car magazines.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Knights of Columbus Council #1244, 717 Water Street, Biloxi, MS 39530, for scholarships in the name of Charles T. Harrison, Sr.
His family thanks Dr. Allison Wall, ICU and the nursing staff of Gulfport Memorial Hospital and Odyssey Hospice Staff.
This guy, with a silent way of improving many people's lives, can be remembered as an ""unsung Hero"".
Visitation will be on Monday, October 24, 2011 from 6-9 pm with the recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 pm at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir, Biloxi, MS.
A Mass of Christian burial will be on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 11 am where friends may visit from 10-11 am until mass time at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D'Iberville, MS. Interment will follow in Biloxi City Cemetery.
